Story Background:  Justin Myzie, along with two other members of Company G, recently attended an event at McDowell, Virginia.  In this three part series, Justin recounts his experiences at the event.

Story:  I entered the town of McDowell, Virginia after dark. First I visited the sutlers; I did not find anything imperative, and they did not have any food. Eventually I tracked someone down who had directions to the Federal camp. Then I was off in the dark. I walked through McDowell and then into the woods. I ran into the commissary before I found camp. They gave me my rations for the night and pointed me in the right direction for camp. It was nearly 10 when I found camp. The company had been split in two, and they directed me to the new company. I found a tent with some room and settled in for the night. I slept very little if at all because it was so cold. I had my oil cloth against the ground. I wrapped my wool blanket around me and had my shelter half on top. I had my gum blanket on top of everything. I still froze.
