Making Bread Pudding:

Recipe:
Easy in-the-field dessert

In your boiler, bring water to a boil
Add several finely-crumbled hardcrackers,
add issue sugar to taste
Cook next to low heat while stirring occasionally until thickened.

Variants:
Throw in a small handful of raisins, or
throw in a small quantity of snitz (dried apple), or other dried fruit,
broken up in small pieces, or
use sweetened condensed milk in a ratio of about 1:2 with water.

Raisins and condensed milk from the sutler, or perhaps sent from home.
